Student Book Talk: Eye of the Storm by Kate Messner

When I book talked Kate Messner’s most recent book, Eye of the Storm, five students raised their hands to claim the book before I was even done! One of the students, Liam, was so excited to see a book that combined his love of science and reading (and threw in a healthy dose of future speculation).  Liam kindly offered to write a book talk for the blog, so I would like to welcome him as our guest poster today!

What would you think if you lived in a world where tornadoes and hurricanes are constant threats?  In Eye of the Storm, Jaden lives in this world.  She goes to Eye of Tomorrow which is a summer camp in which the brightest minds try to improve the world.  Here she meets Risha and Alex and they start doing experiments.  In the StormSafe community of Placid Meadows they are safe from the storms.  Then in Jaden’s experiments, she finds that the storms get bigger as they turn away.  Jaden suspects her dad, the CEO of StormSafe has something to do with this.

In her third middle grade novel, Kate Messner explores the problem of global warming in this action-packed thriller.  I would recommend Eye of the Storm to people who like science fiction, action, and what causes weather.

Thanks, Liam, for your awesome book talk!
